F1 VR Racing game

VolkerWessels

Kumpany, in collaboration with Robot Kittens and Goed!Bezig, brought an VR racing experience to the 2024 Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix for VolkerWessels. Visitors took control of real RC cars on a custom-built miniature Zandvoort track, experiencing the thrill of racing through VR headsets connected to on-board cameras. This unique blend of physical and virtual racing pushed the boundaries of immersive entertainment at one of motorsport's most prestigious events.

Merging physical and virtual worlds, this racing setup featured custom-engineered RC cars equipped with on-board cameras, track-side sensors, and a VR integration system. The technology allowed drivers to see exactly what their cars saw while racing, creating an unprecedented level of immersion. The purpose-built track by Goed!Bezig provided the perfect testing ground for both seasoned racers and newcomers alike, complete with challenging corners and straights that demanded precision and skill.

The project wasn't just about racing – it was part of VolkerWessels' broader "Meemakers" campaign to inspire the next generation of technical talent. Three promising technical trainees received exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Formula 1 operations, from the Operations Control Center to the Engineering Paddock. This unique initiative showcased how cutting-edge technology and engineering excellence come together in motorsport, helping to bridge the gap between education and real-world applications in technical fields.
